ANSWERS

Where are you located?

Our modern, state-of-the-art, freestanding offices are conveniently located on main thoroughfares with nearby mass-transit. Our Yonkers office is at 1990 Central Park Avenue and has its own parking lot. Our Bronx office is at 1100 Pelham Parkway South, near the intersection with Williamsbridge Road. Check directions and images of our facilities at our Locations Center

What services do you offer that set you apart from other OB/GYN offices?

Because of our high-tech equipment, we provide immediate testing with such services as sonography and bone density testing. At most other doctor’s offices, you are given a prescription for these tests to be done elsewhere at a later time, which means more time missing work, etc. Many of these outside facilities do not give you immediate results, which requires phone calls or another visit to your doctor.

We do these tests and interpret them on the spot. For our pregnant patients, we do detailed sonograms and fetal monitoring also in our building, and we also have our own high-risk pregnancy specialist. This saves going to unfamiliar offices or the hospital for additional testing. If blood testing is needed, we draw your blood in our office.

Most other doctors give you a prescription and then you have to go to a laboratory or the hospital to get the blood drawn, further wasting more of your time. And finally, we have more than 100 years of cumulative experience taking care of OB/GYN patients.

Will you accept my insurance?

We are in about 95% of insurance plans offered in our region. Because of the constantly changing insurance environment, it is always best to call our offices for the most timely insurance information.

I am having problems with fibroids in my uterus and my previous doctor recommends a hysterectomy. Can your doctors help me with all of my options?

While our doctors are experts in performing abdominal, vaginal and laparoscopic hysterectomies, we pride ourselves in our knowledge in the many conservative treatments, such as myomectomy (removing only the fibroids), hysteroscopic resection (removal of certain fibroids without an abdominal cut), ablations (burning the inner lining of the uterus to control bleeding). We are expert in the non-surgical and medical options for fibroids and abnormal bleeding

Are your doctors Board Certified?

All of our doctors are Board Certified or Eligble. Besides this, many of our doctors have received additional commendations and accolades for advanced training beyond most OB/GYN doctors. Our more than 100 years of cumulative experience allows us to evaluate and treat virtually all problems encountered in OB/GYN, with the exception of advanced infertility treatments and some gynecologic cancers

Are your offices wheelchair-accessible?

Our modern office in Yonkers has a handicapped parking space and a small ramp to get into our lobby, where an elevator brings you up to the clinical floor. We also have a wheelchair-accessible bathroom in that building

My partner and I are having trouble getting pregnant. Can your doctors help us?

Our doctors are trained in many of the basic diagnostic testing and treatment options that will help most couples with infertility, such as infertility sonography, semen analysis, and the use of clomiphene and metformin to treat difficulties with ovulation and such conditions as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.

I have been having menstrual problems. Can you help me?

We are highly trained to diagnose and treat virtually every cause of menstrual problems, including periods that come too frequently or not frequently enough. We offer all medical and non-surgical therapies, as well as surgical treatments such as endometrial biopsy, D&C, hysteroscopy, and endometrial ablation.

What kinds of office surgeries do you provide?

We offer a full range of office based gynecologic procedure, including D&C, Hysteroscopy, endometrial biopsies, colposcopy, LEEP, etc. We often can perform these procedures in a safer manner without the risks of general anesthesia, and with a faster set-up and recovery period compared to the hospital. Doing these procedures out of the hospital using twilight sleep also avoids the potential of contracting an infection from the hospital bacteria.

Why should I go to a group of doctors when I prefer to see only one doctor?

There are many advantages for patients who are followed by doctors in a group. For difficult medical problems, we always have the ability of discussion with other doctors in our group at the same time as your visit. With more than 100 years of board-certified experience, there is very little that our doctors have not seen or treated. In a group, our offices are open every weekday, which is much more convenient then having to go to the E.R. if the solo doctor is away. A solo doctor might be up 2 or 3 consecutive nights attending to emergency patients, and will often be quite fatigued. Our rotating on-call schedule means that you will usually get a well-rested doctor taking care of you. And finally, a group like ours has the resources to obtain the most modern technology, allowing that patient to get most or all testing done under one roof.

Are any foreign languages spoken in the office?

Some of our doctors and most of out medical assistants are fluent in Spanish.

I had my tubes tied several years ago. My situation had changed and I would like to have an operation to restore my fertility. Can you help?

Depending on the type of tubal ligation surgery you had, our doctors might me able to do microsurgery to re-attach or re-open your tubes. Dr. Sconzo has the most experience with these types of procedures, although your insurance often does not cover tubal reversal surgery. Call to make an appointment with Dr. Sconzo and our insurance experts.

I prefer to see a female physician. Can you do this for me?

We have two women physicians and two female physician assistants to satisfy your office experience.

My teenage daughter appears to be having female problems. Can you help her?

While we prefer that younger teenagers seek the care if the Pediatrician, we are expert in the diagnosis and treatment of most of the female problems that occur during the teenage years.

I have had problems with my Pap. Can your office see me for this?

We have 2 state-of-the-art colposcopes, which allows us to evaluate abnormal Paps. Many doctors have to send their patients to specialists. We are capable of doing the diagnosis and treatment of abnormal Pap testing under one roof in our office.

What is the best birth control option for me?

That all depends on your life style, health and wishes. There is no one best birth control option for everyone. But after an examination and consultation we can help you choose the best method for you.

Do I need to do anything special before trying to get pregnant?

If you are in good general health, there are only a few things that need to be done before trying to have a baby. First, start taking prenatal vitamins a month or two before trying to conceive so you build up your level of folic acid. Folic acid, also known as folate, helps prevent certain birth defects. If you are overweight, try and lose some weight before getting pregnant. It is a very good reason to give up smoking. If you have any medical conditions, get them under the very best control you can before trying to conceive.

What should I do if I have an abnormal PAP smear?

It's very normal to become frightened when you receive the news your PAP smear was abnormal. However, most of the time there is nothing seriously wrong with an abnormal PAP smear. The first thing to do is contact your GYN. He or she will have you come in and discuss the findings and the treatment options with you.

I have fibroids in my uterus. Is this dangerous?

Many times fibroids are an incidental finding and don't have an impact on your health at all. If you think you have fibroids or if you know you have fibroids, a simple in office sonogram can measure them. Then you can discuss treatment options with your physician. Many times, just simple monitoring is all that is necessary.

Are sexually transmitted diseases common?

Unfortunately, they are very common and if you are sexually active you are at risk of contracting one. If you have any doubt you may have been exposed to an STD, contact your GYN and make an appointment to have testing. If nothing is found you will have peace of mind. If there is something that needs to be addressed it can be taken care of as soon as possible
